Anyone else unimpressed by this transfer window ?
We have lost Downing and Song, 2 key players from last season so a massive gap there

Only spent about 18 - 20 million net in the season and that is the season before we move to the OS and the Daves have been quoted that they are going to build a side which can attract about 60K people week in week out..

They seem to be doing things on the cheap, we have spent less than last 2 seasons, I was expecting alot more from this window for sure

Hendrie, Randolph, Obiang, Samuelsen and Lanzini are all unproven but time will tell if they are improvements

Juventus fans are very happy about seeing Ogbonna gone so the Payet transfer is really the only high quality proven addition but he has never played in England so time will tell if he is reaaly an improvent on Downing....

Really hope they will be more ambitious before the window closes because we could struggle this season with a squad that could be weaker than last season.

But hopefully we are much better and all those players will flourish, time will tell but we need at least 4 new players, striker, winger, full back and a midfielder and not on the cheap !

Who said we were going to spend 50 million this summer ?

We haven't seen Lanzini, obiang or ogbonna properly so too early to judge

Too many gambles, Gold only wants to do "sensible deals", I wonder if that means he wont spend what is needed to really improve us.. As things stand the only supposed improvement is Payet on Downing, besides that we may not be stronger than last season because every player except Payet is a gamble..

As things stand we could be in relagation battle this season if the gambles wont pay off, that is a fact many are in denial on.. I fear for our season if our main business is over like the OP

Re: Anyone else unimpressed by this transfer window ?
Too early to say at the minute, but while I don't want to be a doom merchant, I'm certainly a little uncomfortable about our prospects this season.

Bilic was nowhere near the top of my list as new manager, but he's here and I'll be behind him and his entirely new coaching staff. This massive change, coupled with a fair amount of new players coming into the squad, could well take some time to settle and gel into a starting 11, and that, I guess, is where my main worry lies.

Should we get off to a poor start it could prove very difficult to turn around. Many of the new signings look good on paper, but it's how they adapt to the pace and physicality of the Prem that could make or break our season.

I've heard several so called pundits tipping us to be hovering around the drop zone this season, which would be disastrous, and while I don't agree with them, the amount of change throughout the club is a worry.

Hopefully, we'll get Hernandez from the Mancs to form a strong partnership with Sakho, and any worries that we have will all prove unfounded.

Is it true we've bid 11.9 million for Hernandez?

Just heard this from a mate in Norway.

Payet lanzini obiang ogbonna all first 11, another forward and we would have bought half a team and done some great fucking business this window

Re: Anyone else unimpressed by this transfer window ?
I don't think we've seen the strongest team yet so it's a little early to judge

The back 4 looked reasonably solid last season so basically it's only replacing the ageing Collins for Ogbonna (who looked rusty vs Astra)

I should imagine Kouyate & Obiang will be the midfield holding players with Payet & Lanzini providing the midfield pace & invention

Payet's talent speaks for itself but Lanzini is a phenomenal talent & we've hardly seen him yet

Then there's Poyet & Samuelson coming through with hopefully Song coming back. Add to that several very promising youngsters (the best we've had in years)

For me there's plenty of options & plenty to be optimistic about

The only reason to be pessimistic in fact is that apart from Sakho we haven't got a natural goalscorer

I can't believe that won't be sorted out before the window closes (if not before)

Oh so you're basing your judgement on hearsay.

I'm out.

Agree we did look promising v Astra.

Re: Anyone else unimpressed by this transfer window ?
v Astra he looked uncomfortable, was beaten in the air too easy, decision making and distrubution was worrying too. I may be being a bit over critical but that is what I saw.

Lets hope he just needs time to settle and adjust.

When Bilic has had his best 11 on the pitch we have looked excellent.

30 minutes at Norwich and an hour against Astra.

Re: Anyone else unimpressed by this transfer window ?
He could well play yes croe.
Sounded like he made a few cock ups in the the other two, did you go to any of the game Johnson?

Obviously I hope Billic and the players can allay my concerns but I am getting more worried the closer we get to the first game.
My point was not whether or not I rate Billic or Ogbana etc. because the jury is out but naturally they all have my backing. I am concerned though as performances haven't been great, we can't score much without Sakho, not sure if he knows his best team or has a plan.
As said we were on a bad run before Billic arrived and we could have a bad start and be bang in trouble if it continues unless Billic is as good as we hope.

Plus my natural pessimism with all things West Ham is kicking in big time as this season we really can't get relegated due to the big move.

One competitive game and you're writing him off

Ok

Re: Anyone else unimpressed by this transfer window ?
Against Astra Ogbonna blocked a shot which unluckily deflected past Adrian.
That was unfortunate
What else didn't you like about his performance?
I thought he was ok

Re: Anyone else unimpressed by this transfer window ?
"More to the point does anyone think he will start ahead of Reid and Tomkins at the mo."

Considering Bilic brought him because he considers playing two right sided central defenders a weakness, I'm pretty sure Ogbonna will be playing.

What about the other two games where he didn't impress?

Er yes Johnson I was at the only competitive game he has played, were you?

More to the point does anyone think he will start ahead of Reid and Tomkins at the mo. I have no idea.
